Pharmacological properties

Kyusid Plus is a balanced combination of two antacids: aluminum hydroxide and magnesium hydroxide. Magnesium hydroxide has a rapid, and aluminum hydroxide a prolonged antacid effect. Peptic activity is inhibited by both antacids due to an increase in gastric pH. Aluminum hydroxide has direct antipeptic activity, as well as a property that helps protect the lining of the gastrointestinal tract and prevents further irritation or erosion, which promotes healing. Aluminum hydroxide has a weak fixing effect, and magnesium hydroxide has a mild laxative property; the balance of these effects prevents the occurrence of constipation or diarrhea. Both antacids are not absorbed into the systemic circulation and practically do not cause the risk of developing alkalosis.

Simethicone is an auxiliary agent in this drug and prevents gas formation in the digestive tract. This property is a consequence of a change in the surface tension of gas bubbles, as a result of which they merge. This allows trapped gases to escape and be eliminated from the body through regurgitation or passage through the rectum. The dispersal of gas bubbles facilitates the contact of antacids and improves the envelopment of the mucous membrane by the antacid and emollient components of the drug. Simethicone has been well studied and is widely used. It has a quick effect and is non-toxic. Being physiologically neutral, it does not affect digestion and is not absorbed through the gastrointestinal mucosa.

Pharmacokinetics

Kyusid Plus is a non-absorbable drug. If the correct dosage regimen and duration of treatment are observed, it is practically not resorbed in the gastrointestinal tract and has a long-lasting, uniform effect without disturbing the electrolyte balance and without creating the risk of alkalosis or other metabolic disorders. It does not irritate the urinary system and, with long-term use, does not cause alkalosis and the formation of stones in the urinary tract.
